Memorial Cup 2010: Three in, one to go

The Calgary Hitmen defeated the Tri-City Americans in five games to capture the WHL crown, meaning that all we have left is to determine the Quebec League champion and the 2010 Memorial Cup lineup will be set.

By virtue of being host city, the Brandon Wheat Kings always had a place at the table, but it was the Hitmen who won the league championship to earn a berth. The Windsor Spitfires swept the Barrie Colts to grab a second consecutive OHL title, thanks to a huge comeback in the semifinal after falling behind 3 games to 0 to the Kitchener Rangers.

Now, with the Moncton Wildcats defeating the Saint John Sea Dogs by a 5-1 score last night, they lead the QMJHL championship series 3 games to 2.

Who will get in? Moncton was a favorite going into the postseason and my guess is that they'll be the fourth and final team to go to Brandon.

Scouting reports on the key draft-eligible players are on the way, but this is a great time of year, as the last burst of amateur hockey in the 2009-10 season is about to get underway. After that, the NHL's Draft Combine happens in Toronto in the final week of May, and then the draft itself next month.

The Memorial Cup will be televised on the NHL Network, so check your local listings and enjoy.
