Morning skate is done; big game tonight

The Bruins are sure to face a desperate, amped-up Philadelphia Flyers team tonight, who are coming off a stinging loss at home to put them in a 3-0 hole.

Boston's players are pretty loose, but losing David Krejci hurts for sure (no pun intended). He's on his way to Philadelphia after successful wrist surgery in Baltimore yesterday, and will be with his teammates in the Wachovia Center tonight.

Marc Savard moves into his spot on the line with Milan Lucic and Miroslav Satan, and it will be either veteran journeyman Trent Whitfield or rookie agitator Brad Marchand taking his place on the roster. Coach Claude Julien said it will be a gametime decision. Gut feeling here is that it will be Whitfield, who was working on faceoffs with the head coach during the morning skate.

Flyers coach Peter Laviolette got into an interesting exchange with a Philadelphia reporter this morning over Simon Gagne. It was obvious to everyone present that there was some backstory to the tete a tete, but it made for good theater, with Laviolette asking the reporter repeatedly whenever he broached a question about Gagne's injury status if he was referring to Jeff Carter, refusing to go into any detail about what kind of role, if any, Gagne would have if he plays tonight.

Well, time to head to the hotel for a quick workout and nap before the game. I'll be back with a wrap at some point, but you can check out my morning skate notebook over at my Kirk's Call blog on: www.hockeyjournal.com
